Ski and Snowboard Helmet Application: Proper Fit is Everything

Before taking on the slopes, make sure your helmet isn’t too tight or too lose, but just right.

Perhaps the most important piece of equipment a skier or snowboarder can have before hitting the slopes is a helmet. An ill-fitting helmet, however, defeats its intended purpose.

A good helmet should fit snug around the head, but not too tight. To check for a proper fit, put it on and shake your head from side to side. If it shifts, try a smaller size. There should be no gap between the edge of your helmet and the top of your goggles, but the helmet should also not fall so low that it presses down on the goggles or hinders your vision.

The chin strap should fit against the throat comfortably. If it’s too loose, tighten the adjustable strap so that you are assured your helmet will stay in place as you make your way down the mountain.

Follow these helmet application tips for a fun, but more importantly, safe time hitting the slopes.
