Fireside Feasts: Camping Desserts for All Ages

1. BANANA BOATS
MAKES: 1
PREP: 2 minutes
COOK TIME: 3-4 minutes
INGREDIENTS
- Banana
- Chocolate chips
- Mini marshmallows
COOKING TOOLS
- Knife
- Spoon
- Tin foil
- Campfire log tweezers
INSTRUCTIONS
- Make two cuts from end to end on the top of the banana, creating a flap of peel.
- Fold the flap back and spoon out some of the fruit to create a bowl.
- Place chocolate chip and marshmallows inside the bananas until full.
- Wrap the filled bananas in tin foil and place in fire.
- Once chocolate chips and marshmallows are melted (roughly 3-4 minutes) use campfire log tweezers to remove bananas from the fire.
- Keep bananas wrapped in foil and set aside to cool for a few minutes. Remove tin foil and enjoy.
2. CAMPFIRE CINAMON TWISTS
MAKES: 8
PREP: 5 minutes
COOK TIME: 5 minutes
INGREDIENTS
- 1 package of instant biscuit dough
- Spray butter
- 1/2 cup sugar
- 1/2 tablespoon cinnamon
COOKING TOOLS
- 1/2″ dowel or thick stick
INSTRUCTIONS
- Butter the end of the stick where your dough will be wrapped.
- Take one biscuit from the package and roll the dough into a long, snake-like shape.
- Wrap the dough around the buttered stick, starting at the top and working your way to the bottom.
- Place the stick with spiraled dough over the fire and cook in a rotisserie manner.
- Continue rotating for roughly five minutes until dough is brown and easily slips off the stick.
Remove from the campfire, spray with spray butter and coat with sugar and cinnamon to your taste.
3. ORANGE BROWNIES
MAKES: 8
PREP: 10-15 minutes
COOK TIME: 15-25 minutes
INGREDIENTS
- 8 oranges
- 1 package brownie mix
- 2 eggs
- 1/2 cup vegetable oil
- 1/4 cup water
COOKING TOOLS
- Mixing bowl
- Spoon
- Knife
- Tin foil
- Campfire log tweezers
INSTRUCTIONS
- Mix the brownie mix according to package instructions. If you’re camping, you can do this step ahead of time and put in resealable plastic bag.
- Slice the top of each orange off and scoop the interior fruit. Save the fruit to eat later! Do not discard the orange tops.
- Cut a corner of the resealable plastic bag and fill each hollowed orange with the brownie mixture and cap with the orange top.
- Wrap each orange tightly in tin foil and place in the campfire.
- Bake until brownie mixture is fully cooked, about 15-25 minutes.
- Use campfire log tweezers to remove the baked oranges. Carefully unwrap from foil and serve immediately.
4. S’MORES CONES
MAKES: 12
PREP: 2 minutes
COOK TIME: 3-5 minutes
INGREDIENTS
- Chocolate chips
- Cup mini marshmallows
- Favorite chocolate candy
- 12 Ice cream cones
COOKING TOOLS
- Tin foil
- Campfire log tweezers
INSTRUCTIONS
- Place roughly one teaspoon of chocolate chips into each ice cream cone, followed by one teaspoon of mini marshmallows.
- Repeat this layering process until the ice cream cone is full.
- Wrap each cone tightly in aluminum foil and place in the campfire.
- Cook the foil-wrapped cones until the chocolate and marshmallows are melted, roughly 3-5 minutes.
- Remove each cone from the fire with campfire log tweezers and let stand to cool for a few minutes. Remove tin foil and enjoy.
