There are several factors that can influence your performance as a golfer. From how you stay sharp in the offseason to the type of clubs in your bag. All can be the difference between a birdie and a bogey.
Professional golfer Cheyenne Woods offers her golf tips for staying on top of your game all season long. Discover and learn from her experiences in this Pro Tips interview.
HOW DO YOU APPROACH THE OFFSEASON?
Cheyenne Woods: I like to give myself a good month of just straight practice, straight routine, where I’m able to be home, work with my coach and prepare for the year. So, at least about four weeks of me just getting back into the groove of things and getting ready for the year.
HOW DOES GOLF INFLUENCE YOUR WORKOUT?
Golf definitely influences my workout, in terms of what I feel I need to work on. Not only to sustain my energy levels and my strength throughout the season, but also within the golf swing. How can I increase my power? How can I increase my consistency? That all basically starts in the gym. I assess my year. I assess my body, and work with my trainer and coach and figure out where we can improve.
WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE DRILL?
My favorite drill is more of a “feel” drill, where I start with my feet together and I step into the shot. This allows me to get the timing of my hips and my body together and get the power that I want at impact.
HOW IMPORTANT IS IT TO GET FITTED FOR CLUBS?
I think that’s the most important part of playing golf and playing your best golf. You know, the equipment is so important. Everything is made for you and should be made for you. Everyone’s swing is different, everyone’s strength is different. And so, a lot of times when you go, you might be hitting a fade all day, all year, and it comes down to just your clubs not being set correctly. You want your equipment to work for you. That’s why it’s so important to make sure that it’s fit for you.
