Learning The Overhead Tennis Smash

When the ball soars above you, know the tips and tricks to return it with confidence.

Having problems nailing your overhead smash? You’re not alone. Many players struggle, but you should know that one of the keys to a great overhead smash is in the preparation.

When you see that ball zooming overhead, turn sideways and point up toward the ball with your free hand. As you do that, put your racquet back and behind you so that the hand holding your racquet is in line with your ear. Adjust your feet to get underneath the ball and when it comes to you, make contact and give it a smash down with your stroke.

Practice locating and getting under the ball for every overhead, and you could be on your way to smashing them all.
